Letter from the Colorado Veterans Project Board of Directors

Dear friends,

As we have continued to monitor the situation around COVID-19, the Board of Directors has come to the very tough decision that the Memorial Day Run & March will need to be postponed until the Fall. We have a commitment to our volunteers, sponsors, vendors, participants, and our local community to prioritize their health and safety.

We are actively seeking a new venue and date to support the event and deliver a first-class race event to memorialize Colorado’s fallen and raise food and funds to feed homeless Veterans. We will announce new plans as soon as possible.

If you’re already registered for the 2020 race, we will automatically move your registration to the new date (TBD). If you cannot run on that date, we have various options becoming available such as:

  • Move to a virtual run (5K/10K only)
  • Donate registration to Colorado Veterans Project
  • Move registration to a different CVP race event (Denver Veterans Day, Freedom 4-Miler)

Since our partnering food banks rely on food donations during May and it’s nearly impossible to replace the 40,000+ lbs of food we bring in during the event, we plan to still come together virtually in May in some capacity to raise funds to feed homeless Veterans, who are even more at risk right now. Stay tuned for more details and information on how to participate.

Thanks for your understanding and continued support of Colorado Veterans.

Sincerely,

Colorado Veterans Project Board of Directors

FAQ’s

What will happen to my current registration?

If you’re already registered for the event (previously 5/23/20), we will automatically move your registration to the new date (TBD).

If you cannot join us on that date, we have various options:

  • Virtual Run (for 5K/10K Run or Ruck only)
  • Donate your registration to Colorado Veterans Project so that we can continue our mission of supporting Veterans and Veteran organizations, especially during this difficult time.
  • Move your registration to a different CVP race event (ie. Freedom 4-Miler, Denver Veterans Day)

If these options don’t work, we also honor refunds in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Please contact Laura Bingham at lauraw@coloradoveteransproject.org with questions or to adjust your race registration.

Will there be a Virtual option for the 30K Ruck March?

We will be offering a Virtual Run option only for 5K/10K in the fall, for those who cannot attend the new MDRM date in person.

Unfortunately, we cannot offer a Virtual option for the 30K Ruck March, as we would not be able to monitor each participant’s requirements to achieve the Norwegian Foot March Badge. This achievement will only be available during our in-person Ruck March.

Will the venue and route change for the postponed MDRM?

As of now, yes! We will need to find a new/different location for the event, as Douglas County Fairgrounds is booked out until the end of this year.

Will there be a virtual fundraiser?

Yes! We are holding the Memorial Day of Giving via Facebook on Memorial Day: Monday, May 23, 2020, although we are eager to accept donations before and after this date. The purpose of this event is to raise funds for Veterans and their families impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
