30K RUCK MARCH

Achieving the Norwegian Foot March Badge

Ruck marches have been around for quite a while in the military, but ruck marches as a civilian activity is becoming increasingly more popular. We are honored to have Dr. Nils Johansen, retired Norwegian Artillery Reserve Officer, help us host the Memorial Day Run & March. It’s one of the only in the U.S. to award the official Norwegian Foot March Badge to qualifying participants. This is an intense physical challenge open to civilians, Veterans, and uniformed Military.

The Norwegian Foot March (also known as the Norwegian Road March) began in 1915 as a way for Norway’s infantrymen to move from one point to another as part of a tactical advancement.

In order to earn this foreign award, which includes a pin and certificate, each participant must ruck 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) carrying 11 kilograms (25 pounds)—which, in our March, needs to be in the form of non-perishable food donations that you will bring. And bring your own ruck sack!

The Norwegian Foot March Badge is authorized for submittal into official records. Read the MILPER here.

Further details on how to earn the badge in the Civilian/Veteran or Uniformed Military category can be found below.

Uniformed Military

Compete to earn the coveted Norwegian Foot March Badge!

The Memorial Day Run & March is your opportunity to challenge yourself in a friendly competition with fellow uniformed Military. This is an extreme physical challenge, so remember, it’s not necessarily meant to be “fun.” It’s meant for participants to push themselves and give their all, as a tribute and remembrance of our fallen heroes, past and present, who have given all for our country.

All Uniformed Military participants must wear ACU or service equivalent. Non-standard T-shirts may be worn in place of the regulation T-shirts (Under Armour, for example) as long as it is of the same color. Distinctive unit T-shirts are authorized and are encouraged for unit esprit de corps for wear underneath the uniform.

Each individual is required to bring their own backpack or rucksack capable of carrying 25 pounds. The 25 pounds MUST be in the form of nonperishable food items that you provide, to be donated after the Ruck. Each pack will be inspected and weighed at the finish line as the participants complete the march. Following the march, the food will be loaded into our truck and donated to help feed local homeless Veterans.

ALL routes will start and finish at the same point at Douglas County High School, a new location for this year’s ruck march! Water will be provided throughout the course. The 30K (18.6 miles) course will be on completely paved surfaces, with some hills. Medical assistance will be available before, during, and after the Ruck march. Free food and snacks (while they last!) will be available for participants following the Ruck march.

As well as achieving the Norwegian Foot March Badge and Certificate, participants who pre-register get an exclusive Memorial Day Run & March T-shirt, Finisher Medal, Timing Bib, and Race Bag.

Please pre-register online to secure your goodies! Unfortunately we cannot guarantee a T-shirt, medal, and race bag for Day-of registrants.

Friends & Family of Uniformed Military are welcome and encouraged to cheer on their soldier! They can run alongside you on the 5k or 10K Course, or cheer from the starting/finishing line!

All proceeds collected from our fundraiser, as well as proceeds from your registration, go directly to help feed local homeless Veterans in Colorado and continue the mission of Colorado Veterans Project. Learn more about CVP at www.ColoradoVeteransProject.org.
